PAPAMOA DOG PARK ON KAHOOTER! THANKS TO ONE CANTANKEROUS CAT!

Local residents are barking mad over a feline's thwarting of their canine dreams.

In a development that’s got dog owners in a right huff, plans for a new dog park in Papamoa have gone to the dogs — or rather, to a single cat named Whiskers. Yep, you heard it here first folks, Whiskers, the fur-ball from two streets over, somehow managed to halt the project with a submission that’s left even the local council scratching their heads.

Tauranga City Council is reportedly feeling the heat from residents who see a cat’s interference as a massive stuff-up. "I think it’s a piss-take, we had our hopes up for a place to let the pups run free!" exclaimed local dog owner, Dave the Tradie, while sipping a long black from his go-to barista on Papamoa Beach.

The Council claims to take feedback seriously, but a paw-sitive result seems unlikely with all these cats getting in the way. One local retiree, Maureen, summed it up nicely: "Why’s a cat got a say in this? Might as well ask the seagulls too while we’re at it!" The phrase “cat lady” will soon hold a whole new meaning around here if this continues!

As the dog-loving populace of Papamoa stares down the barrel of another waiting game, it looks like they’ll have to postpone the furry frenzy at their future playground for now. Meanwhile, Whiskers the cat is busy licking its paws, completely oblivious to the canine chaos it’s caused. Classic cat move! Expect more submissions from local pets very soon!

I reckon if Whiskers gets a say, then my parrot should be able to start a petition for a bird park! Cats dominating the conversation again, classic!

Linda Chen

Honestly, can we get a bit of common sense here? Cats shouldn’t be having a say in dog parks. Maybe Whiskers was just jealous of the attention our dogs get!

Janice Walsh

Not sure how I feel about a cat pulling the strings here! But maybe we need more cats to keep the council on their toes. I'm just waiting for a rabbit to jump in next!

Sharon Ngatai

You all have it wrong! This is a fine example of local democracy in action. If a cat can halt a project, imagine what a community can do—bring on the dogs' park after a proper referendum!

Wayne Patterson

I say we bring the cats into the fold! Maybe they can help train the dogs—could make for a good reality show or something. Cats and dogs working together; now that's progress!
