LOCAL RESIDENTS SPAT OVER BOAT AND BLOCKS: HERITAGE OR EYESORE?
Mosgiel locals can't decide if a rusty boat on blocks is a slice of history or just a classic case of suburban neglect.
Margaret Henderson, a self-appointed heritage commissioner, was quick to say, 'I don't see what's so bloody heritage about it. If it ain't fishing season, it's just a boat shaped dust collector!'
But not everyone is ready to write off the boat’s cultural significance. Twenty-two-year-old Josh, a student from the nearby uni, insists it embodies the true Mosgiel spirit. 'People from outside don’t get it! This is a statement piece! I mean, look at Castle Street, it's a bloody exhibition of eclectic!'
While some insist it deserves a plaque, others are demanding a clean-up. Mosgiel Community Council is reportedly considering intervening but is currently preoccupied with debating the merits of safety cones at local rugby matches. Can we really expect them to tackle a boat? Only time will tell!

Honestly, I can see both sides here. Sure, it’s a bit of an eyesore, but we’re in Mosgiel! A boat on blocks just adds character. Besides, what else would we talk about at the pub?

I must say, if we start recognizing boats as 'heritage,' what's next? That old lawnmower in my neighbor's yard? It’s a slippery slope, folks! Let’s keep our standards high instead of cutting them with rusty blades!

I don’t know much about cultural significance, but I do know my son would love to take that boat for a spin—well, assuming it floats! Maybe we can turn it into a community project for the kids. Now that's true Mosgiel spirit!

Honestly, if we let every rusty relic hang around, we’ll soon be a museum of bad decisions. Let’s keep our suburb looking tidy and let go of things that just remind us of how old we’re getting!

While I love a good statement piece, this one’s just yelling for help! Can’t we at least agree to paint it bright pink or something? If you’re going for ‘statement,’ you might as well go bold!
