SUMNER SCHOOL LOST PROPERTY BIN DECLARED ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE, PARENTS TOLD NOT TO DIG
The bin holds 47 jerseys, one shoe, and a lunchbox last seen in Year 3.
A lost property bin at a Sumner primary school has been informally declared an archaeological site by parents, after the PTA admitted nobody has reached the bottom of it since 2021.
Inside the bin: 47 unclaimed jerseys, eleven drink bottles, a recorder, three pairs of togs, one left shoe in size 4, and a Tupperware container the PTA chair has asked nobody to open.
Mum-of-three Annika Wells said she'd given up labelling. "Sharpie, iron-on, the lot. Bin doesn't care! Eats labels for breakfast! I've bought Felix four fleeces this term!"
A second parent, Roimata Clark, watched a Year 5 reach in up to the shoulder last Thursday. The kid came out with a jersey that wasn't hers. The name on it belonged to a child who moved to Rolleston in 2022.
The deputy principal told The Daily Yarn the bin would be "sorted before end of term", without specifying which term. The PTA has floated a gold coin retrieval fee. "We're calling it a stratigraphic review," she said. "Easier than admitting we've lost."
The Tupperware remains sealed. Parents have been asked not to approach it.
