MOUNT WELLINGTON WOMAN FINDS ONE SOCK, STARTS SUPPORT GROUP FOR OTHERS IN SAME BOAT
First meeting Thursday at the community hall. BYO orphan sock and a plate.
A Mount Wellington woman who found a single navy sock on her front lawn last Tuesday has launched what she's calling the Sole Survivors Support Circle. Forty-three people have RSVP'd.
Founder Deirdre Halloran, 58, said the sock was the tipping point after a rough year. She'd already lost two from a Hallenstein's three-pack and one Christmas sock with a corgi on it.
"I stood there holding this stranger's sock and thought, right, that's enough," Halloran told The Daily Yarn. "There are people out there sitting on 47 unmatched socks with no one to talk to about it!"
The first meeting is Thursday at the Panmure hall. Tea, gingernuts, and what Halloran is calling a sock amnesty basket for members hoping to reunite pairs. A woman from Ellerslie has emailed to say she's bringing eleven.
Asked what would happen to the original sock, Halloran said she'd washed it and pinned it to the noticeboard. "He's our mascot. We've named him Trevor. Trevor's doing bloody well."
Trevor's owner has not come forward.

This is bloody ridiculous!

Good on Deirdre for finding some humour in all this. It's the small things that get us through a rough patch. Missing socks and all!

This wouldn't have happened back in my day—socks were made to last and people looked after their things!

Why isn't anyone mentioning Gareth Morgan's anti-cat crusade? Probably why socks go missing in the first place. Bloody moggies everywhere!

I live near Deirdre, and let me tell you, Panmure Hall won't fit 43 people with all those socks. Needs a bigger venue, mate.
SnappySocks
Mate, have you been to Panmure Hall? There's enough room for the socks and the people!
fedup_with_it
All this over a sock? Are people that bored now? What a munted way to spend your time.

@fedup_with_it, you sound like you could benefit from some good old-fashioned sock-therapy, mate. Chill out and have a gingernut!

I lost a sock at O-Week and still haven't found it three years later. Maybe Trevor is just starting a revolution!
