PORT CHALMERS DUCKLING INFLUENCER ISSUES TEARFUL APOLOGY FOR CROSSING ROAD WITHOUT 'DOING THE WORK'
Local mallard Brenda goes live from a George Street puddle to address 'the community' after a pedestrian crossing incident.
Guys. Guys. I never thought I'd have to make this video.
deep breath
A Port Chalmers duck known online as Brenda B has posted a 14-minute apology to her 312 followers after waddling across a Beach Street pedestrian crossing earlier this week without, in her own words, "acknowledging the harm caused". Witnesses say a Subaru stopped for her. Brenda now says that wasn't her place to accept.
In the video, filmed beside a puddle near the wharf, Brenda opens with a long pause and a quiver. "To my community," she says, "I am so so sorry. I crossed that road. I took up that space. And I didn't even think about the cars behind that Subaru. I'm growing. I'm learning. I'm doing the work."
Local resident Annette Cargill, 64, who watched the original crossing from the bus stop, said she wasn't sure what Brenda had done wrong. "The car stopped. She crossed. That's how it works, love. She had four ducklings with her and one of them was limping. I'd say she's had a week."
Brenda's manager, a teenager from a Constitution Street flat who asked to be identified only as "Fletch", told The Daily Yarn the apology was "part of a wider rebrand". He confirmed Brenda would be stepping back from the crossing "to focus on her mental health and also moulting season".
The video ends with Brenda announcing a new course on accountability, available via links in her bio. At time of writing, the bio contains no links, only a photo of bread.

Why is a duck apologising?

Back in my day, ducks just crossed roads without all this fanfare. People would stop, the ducks would waddle along, and everyone moved on with their lives. We didn't need social media drama over a duck crossing the street. Honestly, it's getting a bit ridiculous.

Oh come on, mate! It's for a bloody rebrand. Makes sense, really. Engagement's key in this digital age, even for ducks. Can't wait for the accountability course to drop! 😂

Honestly, this is just another example of society going munted. What next? A cat organising a protest for too many cars on a street? It's almost like people have lost the plot.

This whole thing is quackers! 😂

Annette's right. What's the harm? Ducks have been doing this forever. Cars stop, ducks cross, end of story. We're really blowing this out of proportion!

@SandraMcK Exactly! Who's even offended by ducks crossing roads? It's the bloody internet that finds offense in everything!

The real question is who's managing these ducks? Seems like Fletch might be taking this influencer thing too seriously. Give Brenda a break! 🦆
