ALEXANDRA WOMAN'S BROCCOLI POINTS DISPUTE ENTERS SECOND WEEK, NEW WORLD "LOOKING INTO IT"
Clubcard says 40 points. Receipt says 4. Deborah says she'll die on this hill.
An Alexandra woman is now eight days into a formal dispute with New World over a broccoli-based loyalty points discrepancy she describes as "the principle of the bloody thing".
Deborah Sutcliffe, 61, purchased two heads of broccoli on the 3rd during a Clubcard Dollars promotion advertised in the mailer as "10x points on selected greens". The receipt awarded her four points. She wanted forty. She has the mailer. She brought the mailer in.
"I've shopped there since it was a Four Square," Sutcliffe told The Daily Yarn, mailer in hand at her kitchen table. "I'm not a woman who kicks up a fuss. But four points is an insult and they know it."
The checkout supervisor, a woman Sutcliffe has known since coaching her at netball in 2003, reportedly told her the promotion "might've been broccolini, not broccoli". Sutcliffe called this "a cop-out" and asked to speak to the manager, who was in Cromwell. She has since rung twice.
A New World spokesperson said the matter was "being looked into by the loyalty team" and that customers with points concerns should "retain their receipts". Sutcliffe has retained the receipt, the mailer, the broccoli stalks, and a written timeline.
As of Thursday, Deborah's Clubcard balance remains unchanged. She has stopped buying broccoli on principle and is, in her words, "onto the cauliflower now, and watching them closely".

This is a bloody piss-take!

@Trev_Hornby You reckon, Trev? Maybe this will set a precedent. Companies need to be held accountable!
MumOf3_Roxburgh
Honestly, these companies will do anything to keep your points down. Can't blame Deborah for standing her ground! They should honour the 40 points!

Mate, what's a few points? Get over it.

Back in my day, you didn't need points. Loyalty was shown by supporting your local shop, and they respected you for it. We used to track who spent the most each month by who needed a trolley instead of a basket! Now it's just all digital nonsense.
local_expert1950
It wasn't broccolini, folks. New Zealand grows some of the best broccoli and we'd never confuse it with broccolini. Someone's just trying to save face here.

@local_expert1950 There's a difference? Never noticed that before!

Buggered if I'm going back to New World.

@brand_new_day 100%, mate. They're different veggies entirely. Broccolini is like the hipster cousin of broccoli!
