PARNELL SCHOOL APOLOGISES FOR SPELLING "SAUSAGE SIZZLE" AS "SAUSAGE SIZZLE"
Four hundred parents have now read the correction. None of them can find the mistake.
A Gladstone Road primary school has issued a formal correction to last week's newsletter, apologising to families for misspelling "sausage sizzle" as "sausage sizzle". The correction ran on page one, above the item about head lice.
The sizzle, a fundraiser for something the PTA is calling a "sensory garden" and everyone else is calling a raised bed with a compost bin in it, is on Friday. Parents have spent the week comparing the two newsletters side by side on their phones, in their cars, and in at least one case on a projector at a Parnell law firm.
"I've printed both. I've held them up to the window. I've made my husband read them out loud in different voices," said Fenella Marsh-Crowther, 44, whose son is in Room 6. "There is no difference. It's the same words. I'm not saying the PTA is gaslighting us, but I'm not not saying it either."
By Wednesday the class WhatsApp group had passed 340 messages. One father, who works "in IT", claimed the second version used a different kind of space and was told by three separate mothers that this was not a real thing. Another parent proposed the correction was a fundraising stunt. The principal has been unavailable all week, having gone off to the International Confederation of Principals Convention in town to be frustrated about the curriculum with 1200 other principals. My late husband Gerald typed the bowling club newsletter for eleven years and never once apologised, because he never once made a bloody mistake. My son's new girlfriend, who works in something called "comms", tells me a correction "builds trust". It does not.
The PTA secretary, contacted by The Daily Yarn, said the correction stood. "The original was correct. The correction is also correct. We corrected it because that is the process," she said. Asked what the process was for, she said the sausages were Hellers precooked and the onions were being done by Room 4.
The same newsletter lists the sizzle as taking place on Friday 31 June. Nobody has mentioned it.

This is nothing but a piss-take!

Honestly, the PTA must have better things to worry about. My teenagers are more organised!

Honestly, these sorts of things should have been nipped in the bud earlier. If kids see adults faffing about imaginary errors, they'll think it's normal.

My husband, Gerald, would never stand for this nonsense. In our day, mistakes were simply not made! The youth today wouldn't understand standards.

It's just bureaucracy gone mad, isn't it? Why can't anything be straightforward anymore?

Mate, fine point, but I've seen worse than a typo. The council can't even spell "planning" without controversy!

Surprise, surprise! Another pointless apology.

Mate, that's not how newsletters work. They just publish it and hope for the best. Trust me, I've done the same.

Lol.
