SOUTH DUNEDIN MUFTI DAY RAISES $47.20 AND ONE VERY SERIOUS QUESTION ABOUT WHOSE HOODIE THAT IS

The gold coin donation was optional. The Kmart fleece situation was not.

A mufti day at a South Dunedin primary school on Friday raised $47.20 for the Year 6 camp fund and, according to at least three parents at the gate, several deeper questions about the state of the household laundry cycle.

Organiser and PTA treasurer Alison Craddock, whose son turned up in what she described as "a hoodie I have genuinely never seen before in my life", said the fundraiser had been a success on paper. "We were aiming for $200. We got $47.20 and a lost property pile that's grown by about forty percent. So, mixed result."

One mother at pickup, Rewa Sillars, said her daughter had come home wearing another child's puffer jacket and no explanation. "She said they swapped at little lunch. I asked whose it was. She said 'a girl'. That was the entire briefing."

A teacher, speaking on condition she not be quoted by name because "it's a Friday and I've done my bit", said mufti day always ended the same way. "Half the school's in the wrong jumper by 3pm. The other half's in shorts because their mum forgot it was seven degrees. Nobody wins."

Ms Craddock confirmed the $47.20 would still go toward camp, though she noted the lost property bin now contained "at least $47.20 worth of unclaimed Kathmandu". The hoodie has not been identified. Its owner has not come forward.

Back in my day, school mufti days were far more organised. We'd raise enough for a trip to the moon, not just the local camp. Standards have dropped significantly.

@Garry (Halswell), you're right, mate. But these modern times are all about the laugh, not learning. Kids swap clothes more than tradies swap stories!

★ JoannePetone

Honestly, it's not just about the money. This mufti day is a stark reminder that even our kids' hoodies are in on the teenage chaos.

Fredly

Who's munted enough to miss a coat pickup point? It's obvious the sunshine was meant for the wealthy, not these hood-hoggers!

Kiwi_Mum_3

PTA are doing their best, folks! But maybe they could pool funds for some label makers to sort this lost property crisis?

★ Trev_Hornby

I reckon that missing hoodie was always a piss-take anyway. School uniform drama offers little hope for normality.

★ BarryBishopdale

Who loses a Kathmandu hoodie? That's a $200 piss-take if I ever heard one. I bet the PTA's got quite the side hustle going now.

SandraMcK

Are we sure it wasn't just a railway worker's strike disguised as a mufti day? It seems just as disruptive!

Kathy_NorthKiwi

Kathmandu hoodies will turn up in Antarctic expeditions next or feature on TradeMe. Trust the parents can't even budget a gold coin properly

couchgremlin

Lol.
