TARADALE CRICKET TROPHY ENGRAVED 2019 — NOBODY NOTICED FOR FOUR MONTHS

The bloke who won it has had it on his mantle since March. His mum dusted it weekly.

A Taradale Cricket Club trophy handed out in March has been engraved with the year 2019. Nobody noticed for four months. Not the engraver. Not the club president. Not the winner. Not his mum.

The trophy went to opening bat Cameron Reti for Clubman of the Season. It sat on his mantelpiece until last week, when his old man Lance picked it up to wipe a wine ring off the base.

"I said to Cam, mate, did you win this in high school?" Lance told The Daily Yarn. "He goes, nah Dad that's this year. I go, well it says 2019, you tosser. Four months it's been there. His mum's dusted the cunt every Sunday."

Club president Geoff Mallinson said the error was "on the engraver". The Hastings engraver said the proof had been signed off by "someone at the club, possibly Geoff". Geoff has not returned a second call.

Reti, asked if he was still proud of it, said he was "a bit ropeable" but would keep the thing. "Reckon I peaked in 2019 anyway. Bowling average backs it up."

The club is getting it re-engraved. The new plaque will read 2024. The season was 2025.
