ONERAHI WOMAN RINGS 111 OVER COURIER WHO SAID 'CHEERS, HAVE A LOVELY DAY'

Suspicions raised when the bloke also wiped his boots before putting the parcel down.

An Onerahi woman has called police on a NZ Post courier whose only offence was being too polite. She described the encounter as "not right, not right at all".

Dianne Pewhairangi of Beach Road said the courier knocked twice, made eye contact, used her name correctly, and placed the parcel gently on the porch. Then he wished her a lovely day.

"I've been getting parcels off couriers for thirty years," Pewhairangi told The Daily Yarn. "They lob it over the gate. They reverse over the hydrangeas. They leave a card when you're standing right there. This one said cheers. Twice. Something's up."

A neighbour two doors down, Kevin Brljevich, said he'd clocked the courier earlier and agreed it was "a bit fucking sus". "He indicated. In the driveway. Who indicates in a driveway? Cartel, probably."

Northland Police confirmed they attended but stood the job down after determining the courier was "just a good bloke from Kamo who likes his job". A spokesperson added that politeness was "not currently an offence, though we understand the concern".

The parcel contained a set of secateurs Pewhairangi ordered six weeks ago and forgot about. The courier has since been moved to the Tikipunga run.
