AUCKLAND COUNCIL SENDS MANUKAU HOUSEHOLD THREE RECYCLING LETTERS, ALL CONTRADICT EACH OTHER
One says Tuesday. One says Thursday. The third says the bin has been retired.
A Manukau household has received three letters from Auckland Council this month about their recycling. Each one says something different, and one of them includes a diagram of a bin that does not exist.
Ratepayer Lorraine Faifua, 61, laid all three letters out on her kitchen table for The Daily Yarn. The first, dated the 3rd, said recycling was moving to Tuesday. The second, dated the 8th, said Thursday. The third thanked her for joining a pilot she's never heard of and told her to drop her yellow bin at a depot in Wiri.
"I rang the number on the bottom," Faifua said. "Woman told me to disregard letter one. Bloke told me to disregard letter two. Third one put me on hold for forty minutes and then the line went to a recording about dog registration."
My late husband Gerald, God rest him, would've had the council on toast. In his day you got one letter, it was right, and the bin man came on the day it said. Now it's three letters, a QR code, and a bin shaped like a shoebox.
An Auckland Council spokesperson said the letters were part of a "transition rollout" and that residents should refer to the "most recent correspondence", without clarifying which of the three that was. Pressed on the Wiri depot, they admitted that letter had gone to "approximately 4,000 households" by mistake.
Faifua has now put all three bins on the kerb every day of the week, on the basis that one of them will eventually be correct. As of Friday, none had been emptied.

Back in my day, standards were upheld. You didn't get three contradictory letters just to sort out recycling. What a shambles the council has become.

Honestly, how hard is it to organise rubbish? I've got teenagers who can manage that! Fair enough if it was a one-off mistake, but three letters?
Kelsey_Tamaki
@JoannePetone Feels like they're just winging it, hoping nobody notices. Where's the accountability in all this muck-up?
★ BarryBishopdale
Let's be honest, this is just another example of the council's incompetence. They couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery!
Trev_Hornby
Mate, that's a load of rubbish. People always exaggerate these things for effect. I've never had a problem with my letters.

@Trev_Hornby You're having us on! The rest of us are just battling on hoping our bins get emptied. What do you mean, no problems?
couchgremlin
Bloody council!

Three letters for the price of one. Might as well use them to line bin liners at this rate.
