TAUPO UNDER-11s RUGBY GAME DELAYED 22 MINUTES OVER ORANGE ROSTER DISPUTE

Two mums, one dad, no oranges, and a ref who'd rather be at the luge.

A Saturday under-11s rugby fixture in Taupo was held up for 22 minutes at halftime after three parents could not agree on whose turn it was to bring the oranges. One mum eventually drove to New World to end it.

The dispute began when team manager Raewyn Cottrell produced a printed roster showing Dean Wehi was on oranges. Dean produced a WhatsApp screenshot from three weeks ago showing the roster had been swapped. Raewyn's roster did not reflect the swap. The children sat on the wet grass eating nothing.

"I've done oranges twice this season already," Dean told The Daily Yarn, still holding the screenshot like a search warrant. "Raewyn's roster is a fucking work of fiction. She wrote it in February and hasn't opened the group chat since."

Raewyn, contacted at the halfway line, said Dean was "carrying on like a pork chop over some mandarins" and that the roster was "the roster". A third parent, Michelle, quietly noted last week's oranges hadn't shown up either, and that her son Cooper had "cried in the car about it".

The referee, a 19-year-old named Jayden who's only doing this for Level 2 coaching hours, told both sides he did not care who brought the oranges but that the second half was starting "with or without citrus". He was ignored. Play resumed once Michelle got back from New World with a bag of mandarins and a receipt she intends to submit to the club.

Dean has left the WhatsApp group. Raewyn has updated the roster. The oranges, according to Cooper, were "actually mandarins, which is different".

Honestly, it's just oranges!

★ Margaret_F

Well, back in my day, we survived without these roster dramas. Parents knew their turns and sorted it quietly. Gerald would have been amused at this nonsense!

Garry (Halswell)

Sounds like typical small-town rugby drama. Half the time the parents care more than the kids!

★ BarryBishopdale

Bloody waste of time. Always the bloody parents, not the kids, making a fuss.

★ JoannePetone

@BarryBishopdale Honestly, shouldn't be surprised. Too many parents think everything revolves around them.

★ Trev_Hornby

Mate, ref should've just started second half anyway. Who needs fruit so urgently?

pedant_pat

Mandarins, not oranges!

★ Margaret_F

You're right, Joanne. In recent years, it's become a bit of a circus. The youth today have no idea what we've had to tolerate.
