GREYTOWN COMMUTER'S CHIP BUTTY TAKEN CLEAN OUT OF HAND BY SEAGULL WITH "NO REGARD FOR THE QUEUE"
Bloke reckons the bird made eye contact first. The bird has not been available for comment.
A Greytown man waiting for the 6.42am to Wellington had his chip butty removed from his hand mid-bite by a seagull he described as "organised, and possibly local".
Gavin Petherick, 44, a scaffolder who commutes into town three days a week, said the bird had been sitting on the platform bin "clocking me" from the moment he unwrapped the butty at the Greytown bakery counter twenty minutes earlier. "Followed me to the car park. Followed the car, near enough. I get to the station, take one bite, and the bastard's on it. Butty gone. Hand buttered."
A second commuter, Raewyn Small of South Featherston, confirmed the incident and said the seagull had "been running that platform for months". "Took half a mince pie off a tradie last Tuesday. Same bird. It's got a limp on the left leg, that's how you know."
Greater Wellington confirmed the station is not currently under a formal pest management plan, but said commuters were welcome to "eat inside their vehicles or exercise situational awareness". Asked whether that constituted a plan, the spokesperson said the matter had been "escalated to operations".
Petherick has since switched to a sausage roll, which he eats in the ute with the windows up. The seagull, according to Raewyn, has moved on to the 7.14.

Bloody seagulls are getting cheekier by the day!

Mate, try giving up the chip butties. Those things aren't great for your heart anyway. Spinach wraps are the way to go!

Mate, was in that queue last week. Same bird tried to take my lamington. Figured I was just losing my mind!

Eat inside vehicles? What's the point of commuting if I have to hunker down like a scaredy cat just to have breakfast?

Mate, there's no way in hell a seagull followed him from the bakery. That's a load of bollocks. Just trying to cut queue talk, that's all.

@Nigel69, I was there and saw it happen. The seagull was eyeing down everyone's food. Pretty sure it's got a vendetta against commuters.

Back in the 70s, you could eat a muffin at the station without any of this seagull nonsense. But now, even the birds are eager for a free feed!

If Greater Wellington can't handle a bloody seagull, what's next? Pigeons demanding danishes at dawn?
