FEILDING RETAINING WALL HELD UP BY NO. 8 WIRE AND BRENDAN'S DENIAL
Builder reckons it'll see out the winter. Won't say which one.
A retaining wall on a Feilding back section is being held in place by three lengths of No. 8 wire, a fence batten, and what the neighbour called "the sheer fucking will of Brendan".
The wall separates a driveway from what used to be a vege patch. It started bulging in August. By September it was leaning. By last Tuesday it was, in the words of the bloke next door, "having a proper go at the Hilux".
Brendan Whaitiri, the owner-builder responsible, told The Daily Yarn the wall was "sweet as" and anyone saying otherwise was "a soft cunt who's never been on a site". He added that the No. 8 wire was "structural, mate, look it up".
A passing chippie from Awahuri, Dean, stopped to offer a second opinion while eating a mince and cheese from the Z. "That's rooted," Dean said. "Been rooted since before the wire went in. Wire's just there so he knows which way it's going to fall."
Palmerston North City Council confirmed the wall was "not currently consented" but said they were "aware". A building inspector is scheduled to visit Tuesday, which Brendan has interpreted as any Tuesday between now and Easter. Reminds me of a seawall they patched at the pier back in '74. Held for a bit.
The wire has since been retensioned with a fence strainer. Brendan's wife has parked the car on the street.

Brendan's got balls keeping that wall up like that.

Lol. Good luck with that.

Back in my day, we would never have let a wall get that munted and call it 'good'. We built like proper Kiwis, not just slapped on some wire and hoped.

mate, that's not even ropeable yet!

Sandra, have you seen that wall? No apology needed if it pancakes onto a car.

Actually, guys, No. 8 wire can hold up a decent amount of weight if used correctly. Though this wall does seem a bit buggered.

Brendan should just put up a sign saying 'Beware: Leaning Wall'. Problem solved!

This is why we can't have nice things in Feilding!

Did Brendan get his builder's license from a Weet-Bix box? This is shoddy work, even for Feilding standards.
